My favorite country after Sri Lanka is South Korea. One of the main reasons for this is their diet and eating ethics. So I thought I'd tell you a little bit about it in this blog
๐ฑ๐ฐ♥️๐ฐ๐ท
Table etiquette in South Korea goes back to the Confucian scenes of the Joseon Dynasty. Traditionally, South Koreans use cushions to sit on the floor and eat from a low table. The floor is usually heated by an ondol, an underfloor heating system. This custom is still common in many restaurants in South Korea. The restaurant's dining room is usually located on a high platform and guests are expected to take off their shoes before entering. Many restaurants today also have tables and chairs for guests who feel uncomfortable sitting on the floor.
When eating... ๐ฒ
๐️South Koreans never lift a plate of rice like Chinese or Japanese.
๐During a meal, pots and pans are on the table.
๐️It is also unacceptable to talk about stinking or unclean things while eating with others or to eat too slowly or too fast.
๐Although the meal is spicy, scratching the lips at the table is considered a bit unhealthy. If such action is required, it is recommended to leave the table or otherwise be prudent.
๐️South Koreans use chopsticks when eating, however, South Korean chopsticks are made of stainless steel.
๐️During a meal, these chopsticks should not be thrown on the table while making noise. Similarly, spoons should not touch the plates, as they can make a colliding noise.
๐Chopsticks and spoons should never be placed on food, especially rice, in an upright position. Because it is like offering food in the grave of a dead ancestor and therefore it is considered unfortunate.
When Drinking.. ๐ถ
๐บIt is considered wrong to pour one's own drink in restaurants and bars.
๐บGenerally preferred hosts fill their company's drinks, the company should do the same for the host.
๐บ️Therefore, focusing on other people's drinking glasses and filling them when empty is a common practice in bars, parties and other social settings.
๐บTradition says that guests should not refuse the first drink offered by a host.
๐บIf a guest refuses to drink up to three times, that particular guest will no longer be offered.
๐บ️When older guests are asked to pour a drink, they are expected to offer the drink respectfully with both hands.
๐บ When drinking alcohol, guests should hold the cup in their right hand and gently hold the wrist in their left hand.
๐บ️Visitors are always expected to pass objects with their right hand or both hands and never use only their left hand.
๐บHowever, if older guests are serving alcohol to younger guests, guests should bring a drink and say & quot; thank you & quot; Politely say thank you.
๐บIf the alcoholic beverage is beer, it is advisable for young guests to turn their heads. These actions make adults happy. This is because when a person of high social status pours a drink, it is considered appropriate to turn away the person of lesser importance.
